Sign-In Changes Coming to Availity Essentials

January 8, 2026

Cyberattacks in healthcare are increasing faster than in other industries. Availity Essentials is taking proactive steps to strengthen security with authenticator-based sign-in. Here’s what you need to know.

What’s Changing

Text messages and phone calls will no longer be used for two-step authentication. All healthcare providers will need an authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator, to sign in. If you already use an authenticator app for your network, you may be able to keep using it.

  • Current users:
    • Changes will roll out in phases by organization. Primary and assistant admins will receive 30 days’ notice from Availity Essentials before enforcing.
  • New users:
    • New Availity Essentials users already follow the new process.

What To Do

Ask your team to take these steps:

  • Start using an authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Visit Availity Essentials’ two-step support and information hub for instructions, frequently asked questions, and training.
  • Contact Availity Essentials’ Client Services at 800-282-4548 for technical issues and to set up an authenticator app. Their support team is available between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
