Postal Employees Added to Federal Employee Program Payer Starting January 1

November 7, 2024

Starting January 1, 2025, postal employees will have new benefit plans through the Federal Employee Program (FEP) due to a government mandate. The FEP and Postal Service Health Benefits plans will be similar but funded separately.

You’ll still have access to member eligibility and benefits and claims in Availity Essentials. However, the FEP payer name in our Availity display will change on December 14 to include both Federal Employee Program (FEP) and Postal. The claim status report will have the payer name in the top right box like this:

Change in explanation of payments
Note that explanation of payments (EOPs) will display in remittance viewer under the revised payer name as well. In 2025, you may potentially receive three separate EOPs for this payer:

1. Existing FEP members
2. New FEP postal members
3. FEP claims runout (claims processed with a 2024 date of service but paid in 2025)

Customer service
While there’s no change to the FEP provider customer service number (800-562-1011), the new phone number for FEP postal member customer service is 800-550-1722 (live starting November 11, 2024).
