Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program

Premera Blue Cross wants to make it easy for our members to access high-quality, cost-efficient specialty care wherever they live. We’ve worked with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and other health plans across the U.S. to develop the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program.

This program identifies facilities that offer high-quality care with two levels of recognition:

• Blue Distinction Centers: demonstrate quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results.
• Blue Distinction Centers+ – demonstrate more affordable care in addition to quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results.

Here’s a list of specialties under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program:

• Bariatric (weight-loss) surgery
• Cancer care
• Cardiac care
• Cellular immunotherapy – CAR-T
• Fertility care
• Gene therapy – ocular disorders
• Knee and hip replacement
• Maternity care
• Spine surgery
• Substance abuse treatment
• Transplants
