Educate Frequent ED Users About Quality Alternative Options


The Premera Member Engagement team is sending informational mailings to members who are frequent emergency department (ED) users to make sure they know they have other care options available to them at short notice.

Please help us educate our members by reminding them of the following:

  • There are high-quality alternatives to ED visits for non-emergent services. Such as 24-hour NurseLine, telehealth services, and urgent care facilities.
  • Depending on the member’s plan, a trip to the ED may result in higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • Care at an ED will have much longer wait times.
  • What’s considered “emergent,” so they know when it’s appropriate to go to an ED.
